Ronnie James Williams was elected Mayor on Saturday night after beating two
term incumbent Lee Posey in a close vote. Williams won with 52% (2,834) to
Posey's 48% (2,593) of the vote. Williams has been a Pastor the past 7 years
and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and a Master of Divinity
in Christian Thought.
Williams says in his first 30 days in office, he will work with the city's
Accounting/Finance team to review the budget so he can gain an in-depth
understanding of how resources are currently allocated through each of the
city’s departments. He will look at how city revenues and expenditures have
changed over time and will also look for opportunities to make changes and
reductions where needed so the city can address repairs and capital projects
that are highest priority. "No funds will be spent on multi-million-dollar
vanity projects until we have addressed our infrastructure concerns".
He plans to have more city transparency and openness, which he says lacked in
the pervious administration. He will be Mayor for the next 4 years.
