Katelyn Nicole Mutai of Jefferson was killed in a one vehicle accident.
Mutai along with a second passenger, Nancy Pena were in a 2002 Chevrolet
Suburban when it rolled over at around 7:28 a.m. Sunday Morning on U.S.
Highway 59 about one mile north of Queen City. Mutai was the rear seat
passenger, was ejected from the SUV and not wearing a seat belt. Pena,
also 17 was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Mutai was a photographer for the Jefferson Jimplecute Newspaper and also
worked at Brookshire’s. She was planning to attend Oklahoma State University
after graduation to pursue an education in forensics. She is survived by her
parents Daniel Kibet Mutai and Jada Noel Love.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
